Congressman Horsford Urges Bold Support for Educators

In a video message delivered to AFSA delegates, Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV), who represents Nevada’s 4th Congressional District, called on the nation to rally behind public school leaders, emphasizing that the future of American education hangs in the balance.

“Let’s be clear. The future of public education in America is on the line,” Horsford said. “Your leadership is not just valuable—it’s vital.”

Acknowledging the mounting pressures facing school leaders—from political interference and budget cuts to mental health crises and the integration of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence—Horsford praised educators for their resilience and commitment to students. “You didn’t sign up for easy work. You signed up to do right for our kids,” he said. “I see you, I stand with you, and I’ll continue fighting for you.”

The Nevada congressman stressed the need for bold investments in public education—not just in infrastructure, but in the people who make schools run. He called for increased funding to support classroom teachers, cafeteria workers, and administrators, as well as expanded access to mental health services and technology.

“Our schools must be more than learning environments,” Horsford said. “They must be safe havens for every child.”

Framing public education as the bedrock of democracy, Horsford urged continued advocacy and partnership with school leaders. “When we stand behind school leaders like you, we’re not just supporting students—we’re protecting the soul of our nation,” he said.

The congressman closed his remarks with a message of gratitude and solidarity: “Thank you for everything that you do. I’ll keep working alongside you, because your work matters—and our future depends on it.”
